Ukraine Shocks Portugal With A 2-1 Victory In Kiev

Inspite of Cristiano Ronaldo 700th career goal,  it was not enough for the Portuguese team to gain victory in kiev, as host nation Ukraine beat Portugal 2-1 in Kiev to book a place in the Euro 2020 finals, leaving their opponents with work to do if they are to qualify.

The Ukrainian team only needed just a point in Monday's qualifier to secure a top-two finish in Group B, but picked up all three as they humiliated reigning European champions, leaving them with a first defeat in 14 games.

First-half goals from Roman Yaremchuk and Andriy Yarmolenko earned victory for Andriy Shevchenko's side, who held on with 10 men after Taras Stepanenko was shown a second yellow card for handling the ball inside the box.

Ronaldo gave his home team a consolation goal by concerting a penalty  spot kick in the 72 minutes to bring up his personal landmark, but Portugal could not find a leveller and may now need victories over Lithuania and Luxembourg in their final two matches to hold off third-placed Serbia.
