Barcelona FC Appoint Quique Setien As New Head Coach

Spanish Laliga champions, Barcelona have sacked their manager Ernesto Valverde and have appointed Real Betis manager, Quique Setien, as their new head coach.

Ernesto Valverde, 55-year-old was the head coach at camp nou for two years and eight months before being sacked on Monday night, January 13.
In an official statement released on Monday, Barcelona thanked Ernesto Valverde “for his professionalism, his commitment, his dedication and his always positive treatment towards all that make up the Barcelona family,” the statement added.

From the records, during Ernesto Valverde’s reign as head coach in charge, he helped the club to two Spanish league titles, one Copa del Rey title and a Spanish Super Cup triumph.

However, the recent poor performance, several complaints about playing style and shocking UCL second-leg defeats to AS Roma and Liverpool in 2018 and 2019 disfavoured him from Barcelona fans who then started the call for his sack with “#ValverdeOut.”

It was also gathered that the recent defeat to Atletico Madrid on Friday night during the Spanish Super Cup sealed the fate of Ernesto Valverde

Bacelona new head coach, Quique Setien, 61-year-old, was a former manager of Real Betis. He successfully led Real Betis to their highest finish since 2005 and to the Copa del Rey semis before leaving in May.

Quique Setien has been reportedly linked to Bacelona on several occasions based on his football philosophy which is similar to that of the Catalan side.

Quique Setien new coaching contract with Bacelona will last until June 30, 2022.
