On Friday, Alvaro Morata signed with AC Milan, making a return to Serie A just days after clinching victory in Euro 2024 with Spain. The 31-year-old striker has committed to a four-year contract with Milan, stepping in to fill the void left by Olivier Giroud, who recently transferred to Los Angeles FC.
"Morata has signed with the Rossoneri until June 30, 2028, with an option to extend for an additional year," announced Milan in an official statement.
Italian media reports indicate that Milan activated Morata’s €13 million ($14.2 million) release clause. The striker is expected to earn around €4.5 million per season.
Morata played a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, featuring in every match and scoring his sole goal of the tournament in a commanding 3-0 victory over Croatia, which set the tone for their campaign in Germany. He has netted 36 goals in 80 appearances for Spain.
Returning to Italy, Morata brings valuable experience from his previous stints with Juventus, where he won two league titles and three Italian Cups. Additionally, he has enjoyed success with Chelsea, winning the FA Cup, and with Real Madrid, securing two Champions League titles in 2014 and 2017.
Milan, who finished second in Serie A last season but trailed champions Inter Milan by 19 points, will kick off the new league season under the guidance of their new coach, Paulo Fonseca, with a home match against Torino on August 17.
