Leicester City have completed the
signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp for a reported £25 million
($32 million). The 23-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with the
newly-promoted Premier League team.
Returning to the Premier League after
a season in the Championship, Leicester’s first match back will see them face
Tottenham, adding an ironic twist to Skipp’s move.
Skipp revealed that the chance to
work again with Leicester manager Steve Cooper, who previously managed him in
England’s youth teams, was a key factor in his decision to join the Foxes.
“I’m really looking forward to being
part of this squad,” Skipp said. “There’s a strong group of players here, many
of whom have experience in the Premier League. I’m excited about what we can achieve
together.”
Skipp also expressed his enthusiasm
about reuniting with familiar faces, noting, “The staff here already know me
well. I have a solid relationship with Steve from our time with England, and
I’m eager to contribute and demonstrate my abilities.”
Skipp, who joined Tottenham’s
academy at the age of six, made 106 appearances for the north London club
before his move to Leicester.
