The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded the Super Eagles three points and three goals on Saturday after Libya failed to participate in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier. This decision has strengthened Nigeria’s position at the top of their group.
With this ruling, the Super Eagles now lead with 10 points from four games, extending their advantage to four points over their closest rivals, Benin. Libya, on the other hand, remains at the bottom of the group with just one point.
A draw against Benin in Abidjan next month would secure Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 AFCON, scheduled to be hosted by Morocco in December 2025.
CAF also imposed a $50,000 fine on the Libya Football Federation, which must be paid within 60 days of the decision.
