Jorginho Commits to Arsenal, Aims for Trophies

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has inked a contract extension, understood to be for a year, as he sets his ambitions on securing silverware with the Gunners.

Jorginho, the 32-year-old Italy midfielder, joined Arsenal from London rivals Chelsea on an 18-month deal in January 2023 and has since become a crucial figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad, which is currently pushing for the Premier League title.

Having featured in 35 matches across all competitions this season, Jorginho netted his lone goal in a Champions League victory over Lens. Arsenal presently holds the top spot in the Premier League standings with just two games remaining, edging out defending champions Manchester City by a single point, albeit City have a game in hand.

With a decorated career that includes triumphs in the Champions League, Europa League, and European Championship, Jorginho is eager to add more silverware to his collection. Reflecting on his future aspirations following the contract extension, Jorginho emphasized the importance of enjoying the moment and maximizing success. He stated, “Win as much as I can, enjoy the moment because that’s really important for me. Because if you are somewhere where you are not enjoying it, or you are not happy, then it’s difficult. So moving forward is trying to be here, happy, and achieving as much as we can.” Arteta expressed delight at Jorginho’s contract renewal, highlighting his integral role within the team. He described Jorginho as a role model possessing exceptional leadership skills and a playing style that enhances the performance of those around him on the pitch.

Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures include a clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday followed by a home game against Everton on May 19 to conclude the season.
